Happy New Year! I thank God everyday that I thrived another fulfilling year. I also have to thank the higher spirit for allowing me to improve with my cooking. My cooking journey hasn’t been easy. It’s been times that I wanted to quit. It’s been times I’ve been frustrated. And it’s been times that I’ve had self-doubt. By the grace of God, I’ve gotten better. And it’ll continue to get better as long as I stayed dedicated to my craft. My website is dedicated to individuals, no matter what their cooking experience, can become a better cook. You can and will eat healthy and delicious food. By keeping it simple and follow easy recipes, I can assure you, you’ll have better confidence in the kitchen.
Here’s some quick and effective tips to become a better home cook:
Read and write down recipes
There’s thousands of free recipes to read and watch. Books are better. There are four types of learning styles: visual, auditory, kinesthetic, and reading/writing (Bay University, 2021). Find the style(s) that best suits you. And get out of your comfort zone! Don’t be repetitive. Switch up your recipes from time to time. There’s a lot of different cuisines to choose from! Trust me. It makes cooking way more exciting.
Create a bi-weekly menu
It’ll save you time, money, and stop wasting on unnecessary food. Especially since food is getting expensive (Tyko, 2021). If bi-weekly is too much, weekly works too. Prep and mise en place early too. That way you won’t be scrambling in the kitchen.
Buy essential kitchen utensils
If you’re stocking or starting from scratch, you only need certain items to thrive in the kitchen. Get rid of the clutter. For example, a chef knife is far better than buying a whole knife set.
Don’t give up!
Don’t be overwhelmed if things don’t go as planned. Or you make a lot of mistakes. I’m still learning everyday on how to become better cook for myself and loved ones. Nothing happens overnight. It’s all in the process of your cooking journey! 🙂
