I absolutely love bread. I love making it, and especially love eating it. One of my favorite breads to bake is the focaccia bread. It’s actually the first bread that I learned to make years ago. Not only is it versatile, the ingredients are simple and easy to find at a local grocery store. Here’s my simple but flavorful and delicious onion, garlic, and herb focaccia bread recipe! 🙂

Focaccia Bread
Equipment
- 1 Large mixing bowl
- 1 Measuring spoons
- 1 Large pan
- 1 Small spoon
- 1 Cutting board
- 1 Chef knife
- 1 Small Pot
Ingredients
- 4 cups AP or bread flour
- 2 cups Warm water (not hot, but really warm)
- 2 tsp Yeast
- 2 tsp Salt
- 2 tsp Honey
- 4 tbsp Olive oil
- Olive oil (to coat the pan and sauté onions)
- 1/2 cup Olive oil (for garlic confit)
- 1 Onion
- 1/4 cup Garlic
- 1 spring Herbs
Step 1
Mix the yeast with warm water (not hot!) in a middle to large mixing bowl. I recommend adding honey to help with the process. Once the yeast bubbles and reaches the surface (about 5-10 minutes), it’s ready to go! 🙂
Step 2
Using a spatula or hands (I love using my hands!) slowly and gently incorporate the flour, salt, and olive oil. If you mix it fast, the bread will come out chewy. Make sure the dough is nice, smooth, and springy. Allow it to rise for an hour.
Step 3
Once the dough is done rising, you can either place it in the refrigerator for the next day or bake it off the same day. Place the dough in a middle to large pan that’s coated with olive oil. Gently use your fingers to shape and press the dough. Allow it to rise again for another hour.
Step 4
Prepare your additional ingredients. My favorite Italian focaccia flavor is caramelized onions and garlic confit. Very simple to make. Just sauté the onions in hot oil until golden brown. With the garlic, just heat it up with oil until you see the skin turning a light brown color. Turn it off and allow the oil to cook it a bit more. You can save the garlic oil for later.
If that’s not your preference, you can add cheese, rosemary, tomatoes, or anything that can make the delicious focaccia bread a bit special! 🙂
Step 5
Preheat the oven to 425F. Once the bread is finished rising, add the ingredients (I also added rosemary and sea salt) and place the Italian bread in the oven for about 30 mins or until golden brown. Make sure to turned it around between that time.
Step 6
It’s time to eat! (Once you allow it to cool down of course.) Drizzle the garlic oil for a more garlic flavor and enjoy your delicious Italian bread! 🙂
